1 Chronicles 17:9 “And I will provide a place for my people…and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed…”
Praise the Lord! After many years of meeting in places that we could only use on Sundays and Wednesdays, LIFE Church Lubbock finally has a permanent meeting place that we can call our own. While we’re just renting the facility, it is ours 24/7! No more getting permission for special meetings or for using someone else’s sound system; no more meeting around the schedule of someone else; no more scrambling for another place when the facility isn’t available for a certain Sunday! While I am extremely grateful to the Lord and the others who He has brought us into contact with, I am thrilled that we finally have a home of our own!
Many of you know our saga: we moved to Lubbock in the spring of 2008 at the beckoning of the Holy Spirit and met in homes for several months until we found a temporary meeting place on Slide Road and 10th Street, which was followed by meetings at the Science Spectrum for over a year. We next were led of the Lord to meet in our city parks for the summer and fall of 2010 (quite an adventure as you might imagine) followed by another season of meeting in our home. In February 2011 we were invited to use the facilities of Sin City Ministries (unusual name, I agree) on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. This was a huge blessing! We were never charged a fee for the use of the building – though we were faithful to bless them through our monthly offerings to their ministry! All the while we searched and searched for a meeting place of our own. Either the places we liked just didn’t work out or we simply didn’t have the “okay” from the Holy Spirit to pursue any of them.
However, in December of 2012 we heard from Sin City Ministries that they might be relocating to be housed in a local church! We began to pray for the perfect will of God, knowing that we would really like to take over their facility since we were already accustomed to meeting there. Then in January of this year we finally got word that Sin City was indeed moving and we could take the facility on a permanent basis!! We finally have a home of our own! Beginning February 1, 2013 LIFE Church Lubbock is now located at 4130 34th Street, Lubbock, Texas!!
While we are thrilled to have our own place, there is much work to be done. We have already begun remodeling and hope to complete most of the work this month! LIFE Church people are the best!! The giving of their time, service, and finances exemplifies their devotion to the Lord and their commitment to His Word! We’ve had some great times of fellowship as we’ve labored together in this endeavor. Some of our men and women have spent hours preparing our new home for the Lord’s use! Our new sound system is in place (financed by a generous partner), new carpet has been donated (though not yet laid), the walls are ready to be finished and painted! We continue believing for the funds needed to finish the current projects and purchase new chairs and replace the ceiling tiles, but we know that the Lord is our Source!
As exited as I am to have this home of our own, I am much more excited about the assignment that lies before us! Our building is only a tool – it is the launching point for our endeavor to reach our city with the gospel of Jesus! Now that we have a permanent home, we have a definite area of town in which we must share the love of our Savior! We have been strategically placed in almost the center of Lubbock and have already heard the initial steps of the Lord’s plan to reach out to our city. He reminded me recently of the scripture in Acts 17:6 when Paul and Silas were accused of “turning the world upside down”. While the accusers thought the world was being turned upside down, we know it was being turned “right side up”!! Our assignment from the Lord is to use our center city location to begin preaching and demonstrating Jesus to our city from the inside out. We are going to turn our city right side up from the inside out! I am so excited!!
I hope you will join us in this new phase of ministry! We will continue to experience dynamic worship, sound Bible teaching, and loving fellowship with one another. However, we are now able to add to our focus the thrill of sharing and demonstrating Jesus with our neighbors from this “home of our own!”
